In the past, Devriendt combined his studies in SME management with a job in a transport company. The experience he gained made him decide to start his own transport company with TransDirect. In its debut year, the Kortrijk-based forwarding company immediately posted a turnover of 400,000 euros.
TransDirect relies on its own drivers. "We gather charters - drivers who own their own trucks - into an international network and sell that capacity to our clients," explains Gilles Devriendt. TransDirect transports industrial products such as canned goods, packaging and metals to destinations in the Benelux and Germany. "The advantage of working with charters is that motivation among the drivers is high. They function as self-employed, but at the same time they can rely on a planning department that also assists them in case of any problems."
Despite the known challenges within road transport, such as the driver shortage, waiting time for new trucks and sky-high diesel prices, Devriendt still sees growth potential with Transdirect in 2022. "The goal for next year is to achieve1.5 million euros in turnover and to carry out 5,000 transports."
